Another shot from my house :D

Critiques

:iconflame-of-the-phoenix:
This is really an interesting sunset that you captured, and it's amazing that you caught this from your house. What a beautiful view you must have! Here's the breakdown of my rating:

CONCEPT:

I do think you thought this through, but I'm not sure if you got the full beauty of the view. Perhaps it would have been a little better if it was taken horizontally, which would not only show the expanse, but give it a slightly less claustrophobic feel to it (not that it is too much now, but I think it could be less boxed in feeling, if that made sense).

ORIGINALITY:

Unfortunately, there are so many pictures of sunsets out there, so it's hard to differentiate one from another unless they really stand out. I really do find this a pretty photography, but taken with the trees in the front almost stunt the view, because there is no real depth. This is due to the trees being silhouetted but all seeming to be on the same plane due to the fact they are all the same shade of black. Maybe try heading out and looking for other places to shoot where you would find more depth (ex: fields, river fronts, etc).

TECHNIQUE:

First off, the details are gorgeous. You were able to capture all the leaves in the outline of the trees as well as the clouds' details. I have to say that I am really enjoying the orange glow around the trees as well; it makes the overall look more interesting as well as gives an intensity of color to the shot.

While I do think you have a good technique down, but there are some aspects that could be improved that would make it even better. :aww: First off, I feel that the colors are a bit dull (apart from the orange). I realize it's sunset and this is probably quite true to what it looked like in reality, but it just is not as eye-catching as it could be. This can be remedied in a few ways: one is just to use Photoshop (if you have it) and fix the colors/contrast in Levels and the other is taking the next photographs at a slightly earlier time when the sun a little higher in the sky. Basically, you would be looking for a more balanced color and contrast scheme- one that has a light tone (usually a white or very light color) and one that is a dark tone (which you have here, the silhouetted trees). All the other colors are in the middle (obviously :giggle:).

One other thing I would like to mention is that the photo feels a little busy to me- it seems as though the clouds at the top take away from the overall look, since they don't really blend that well with the bottom portion of the photo. Of course, you aren't at fault for that in the slightest; it's not as if you can change the sky! :D But perhaps take sunsets over the course of a few days or so and try to pick the most beautiful one of the group. After all, every day is different and one day the clouds may be positioned better, mesh better with the rest of the sky, or have a better color than the rest of the days.

IMPACT:

All in all, it is a very beautiful photograph. With a few tweaks and changes, it would probably be even better!

OVERALL

+s: Beautiful orange glow haloing the trees, great details.

-s: Colors not as vibrant as they could be, picture a little busy.
